구마모토 인터내셔널 스쿨은 2003년에 유아부를 설립했습니다.
현재는 초등부·중등부·고등부(IB 디플로마·프로그램)와 Grade 10~12의 학생 기숙사를 갖추고, 2세부터 Grade 12까지의 일관 교육을 실시하고 있습니다.
KIS는 학생들이 21세기의 복잡하고 다양한 세계에서 활약할 수 있는 힘을 습득하는 것을 목표로 하고 있으며, 이를 위해 필요한 지식과 스킬의 습득을 지원하고 있습니다.
학업뿐만 아니라 정신적, 감정적인 성장과 사회적 기술을 키우는 것도 중요합니다. 수업은 영어로 실시해, 국어(일본어)나 중국어(만다린)의 네이티브 레벨의 수업을 통해서 한사람 한사람의 모국어의 힘도 소중히 늘려, 복수의 언어로 자신을 가지고 커뮤니케이션을 취할 수 있게 되는 것을 목표로 하고 있습니다.

높은 기대와 두꺼운 지원.
학생들이 힘을 발휘할 수 있는 것은, 잘 이해되고, 안심할 수 있고, 지지되고 있다고 느낄 때입니다. KIS는 학업에 높은 목표를 내거는 한편, 정신면·사회면을 포함한 아이의 전인적인 성장을 소중히 하고 있습니다. 교사는 한 사람 한 명의 학생을 잘 알고 싶습니다. 서포트 체제로서, 일본어・영어・중국어로 상담에 응할 수 있는 스쿨 카운셀러(공인 심리사)와, 학생의 건강 관리와 응급 수당을 담당하는 학교 간호사가 있습니다.
영어 능력과 확고한 모국어의 힘
수업은 영어로 하고, 입학시에 일본어 능력은 필요 없습니다. 일본어 수업은 일본어를 모어로 하는 학생을 위한 본격적인 국어와, 일본어를 배우고 있는 학생을 위한 제2언어로서의 일본어로 나뉩니다. 중국어(만다린)는 대만 출신의 교사가 지도하고 있습니다. IB 디플로마에서는 영어・일본어・중국어의 「언어 A」를 개강하고 있어 모어로 문학을 가장 높은 레벨로 배울 수 있습니다.
하나의 디플로마로 국내외 대학에
IB 디플로마는 국내외 대학으로 가는 길을 열 수 있습니다. 일본 대학이나 해외 대학 중 하나를 선택할 필요가 없습니다. 2026년 현재 국내 84개 대학이 IB를 활용한 입시를 실시하고 있습니다. 대부분은 서류, IB 성적, 소논문, 면접 등에서 전형하며 대학 독자적인 필기시험을 부과하지 않습니다. 대학 입학 공통 테스트가 불필요한 입시도 많이 있습니다. 영어만으로 학위를 취득할 수 있는 과정도 늘고 있습니다. KIS에서는 대학 조사나 출원 계획부터 지망 이유서, 면접까지 국내외의 대학 진학을 서포트하고 있습니다.
Grade 10-12 학생 기숙사
2026년, 스이젠지역 근처에 Grade 10~12의 학생을 위한 학생 기숙사를 개설했습니다. 깨끗하고 안전한 환경에서 모두 개인 실입니다. 경험이 풍부한 기숙사 부모가 거주지에서 지원합니다. 구마모토 이외에서 온 학생도 KIS에서 IB 디플로마에 도전할 수 있습니다.
미래를 향해 펼쳐지는 캠퍼스
신교사는 2027년 12월에 완성 예정입니다. 이과 실험실이나 미술·디자인 교실의 확충, 카페테리아, 그라운드, 시험 전용실 등이 더해져, 캠퍼스의 부지 면적은 약 10,000㎡(약 3,000평)가 됩니다.

Our Grade 7 students are bringing science to life through “My Living Ecosystem,” a hands-on project in our school garden. 🌿🔬
Students prepared the soil, planted different crops—including daikon, lettuce, and radishes—and are now observing with excitement as their plants germinate and grow.
Throughout the project, students are also completing a Science Journal, where they record their observations, document changes, collect evidence, reflect on their findings, and track the development of their living ecosystem over time. 📓🌱🔍
At the same time, they are strengthening essential MYP Approaches to Learning (ATL) Skills: Research Skills through observation and evidence collection; Thinking Skills by analyzing changes and making connections; Communication Skills by recording and explaining their responsibility; and Self-Management Skills by organizing their journal, monitoring progress, and caring consistently for their plants.
This project is about much more than growing vegetables. It is about growing curiosity, responsibility, collaboration, and scientific thinking. 🌎💚

The Dolphin Team observed the texture and features of different seashells, sand, fish teeth, and rocks from the ocean. It was such an amazing experience, seeing the students get excited holding a shark's tooth!

Last Summer Camp, the Whale Team delved into the world of Science! The kids enjoyed looking through the microscope; they also created their own fan using simple materials and tried to fly water rockets!
