熊本インターナショナルスクールの第2回年次スペリングビーは大成功を収め、1年生から7年生までの40名の熱心な参加者が集まり、このイベントが学校の大切な伝統として定着しつつあります。今年のイベントは特に意義深く、初めて1年生が参加し、最年少の学習者たちが上級生と共に輝く機会となりました。この競技会の包括的な精神と、興奮と仲間意識が融合した雰囲気は、学習への愛を育み、すべての年齢の生徒にとって忘れられない思い出を作りました。
公平性とアクセシビリティを確保するため、私たちは従来のスペリングビーの形式を調整し、前年度のスクリップスナショナルスペリングビーの公式単語リストを使用しました。多くの生徒が英語学習者であることを考慮し、従来のスペリングビーとは異なり、単語リストを提供して準備の機会を公平に与えました。さらに、参加者を年齢に応じた3つのレベルに分けることで、競技をより適切に調整しました：
- ビーワン: 1年生から4年生
- ビーツー: 5年生から8年生
- ビースリー: 9年生から12年生
各レベルには独自に選ばれた単語リストがあり、すべての生徒にとって挑戦的でありながら達成可能な内容となっています。この配慮の行き届いたアプローチは、私たちの包括性とサポートへの取り組みを示し、すべての参加者が力を発揮できる環境を作りました。
チャンピオンシップラウンドはイベントのハイライトで、3年生のムニと2年生のサヤが観客を魅了する緊張感あふれる対決を繰り広げました。息をのむような戦いの末、ムニが総合優勝者に輝きました。その他の受賞者は以下の通りです：
- ビーワン チャンピオン: 2年生のサヤ
- ビーツー チャンピオン: 4年生のハウィー
- ビースリー チャンピオン: 7年生のコー
彼らの決意と言語への情熱は、今年のスペリングビーを本当に感動的なものにしました。イベントの成功を支えたオーガナイザーのチャールズ・フエンテス氏とエリザベス・モートン氏に心からの感謝を捧げます。彼らの献身的な努力と緻密な計画により、今後のスペリングビーの基盤が築かれ、学び、成長、そして達成を祝う学校コミュニティの一環として続いていくことでしょう。
The Kumamoto International School Second Annual Spelling Bee was a resounding success, bringing together 40 enthusiastic participants from Grade 1 through Grade 7 and solidifying its place as a cherished school tradition. This year’s event was significant as it welcomed Grade 1 students for the first time, allowing our youngest learners to shine alongside their older peers. The competition’s inclusive spirit, combined with its blend of excitement and camaraderie, fostered a love for learning and created unforgettable memories for students of all ages.
To ensure fairness and accessibility, we adapted the traditional spelling bee format by using the official Scripps National Spelling Bee word list from the previous year. Recognizing that many of our students are English language learners, we provided word lists for study—a departure from conventional spelling bees—to give everyone a fair chance to prepare. We further tailored the competition by dividing participants into three age-appropriate levels:
Bee One: Grades 1-4
Bee Two: Grades 5-8
Bee Three: Grades 9-12
Each level had its own curated word list, ensuring the challenge was both engaging and achievable for every student. This thoughtful approach highlighted our commitment to inclusivity and support, allowing every participant to thrive.
The championship round was a highlight of the event, with Muni (Grade 3) and Saya (Grade 2) captivating the audience in a tense and thrilling showdown. After a nail-biting exchange, Muni emerged as the Overall Champion. Other winners included:
Bee One Champion: Saya of Grade 2
Bee Two Champion: Howie of Grade 4
Bee Three Champion: Koh of Grade 7
Their determination and passion for language made this year’s Spelling Bee truly inspiring. A heartfelt thank you to organizers Mr. Charles Fuentes and Ms. Elizabeth Morton for their dedication and meticulous planning, which ensured the event’s success. Their efforts have set the stage for many more Spelling Bees to come, celebrating learning, growth, and achievement in our school community.
