今週、ピカソプレスクールでは、春の園芸プロジェクトが始まりました。この活動は、「植物が生きて育つために必要なもの」という単元の一環として行われています。屋上は、子どもたちが実際に手を動かして学ぶのにぴったりの場所で、まずはジュピタークラスの子どもたちがミニトマトの苗を観察するところからスタートしました。先生が丁寧に苗をポットから取り出すと、子どもたちは根っこの様子に興味津々で、たくさんの質問をしていました。
子どもたちは一人ひとり順番にプランターに苗を植え、根のまわりの土をやさしく押さえていきました。植え終わったあとは、全員で順番に水やりをし、植物がしっかりと水を吸えるように気を配りました。
ミニトマトの栽培を通して、子どもたちは植物のライフサイクルについて学ぶだけでなく、生き物を大切にする気持ちや、責任感、そして忍耐力も育んでいます。
これからも定期的にトマトの様子を観察し、どのように変化し成長していくかを見守っていきます。子どもたちは、自分たちで植えた小さなトマトを収穫して味わう日を楽しみにしていて、すでにワクワクした気持ちが高まっています。
5-Year-Old Jupiter Class: Planting Cherry Tomatoes on the Rooftop
This week at Picasso Preschool, the children began their spring gardening project as part of our unit on what plants need to live and grow. The rooftop was the perfect place for hands-on learning, and the Jupiter students started by taking a close look at the cherry tomato seedlings. Students were curious about the roots and asked thoughtful questions as the teacher carefully removed each plant from its container.
One by one, the children helped plant the tomatoes into the planters, and gently patting the soil around the roots. Once the planting was done, everyone took turns watering the soil, making sure the plants got enough water.
By planting and caring for these cherry tomatoes, the children are not only learning about the life cycle of plants but also developing a sense of responsibility, patience, and care for living things.
We’ll be checking on the tomato plants regularly in the weeks ahead, watching how they change and grow. There’s already a sense of anticipation among the children as they imagine the day they might be able to harvest and taste the little tomatoes they planted themselves.
